Your kid\u2019s dentist may suggest this procedure when your son or daughter\u2019s\ntooth is damaged beyond repair to prevent future oral health problems. After\ntheir extraction, you want them to be comfortable and their gums to heal\nproperly. Read on for tips on taking care of your loved one after their\nprocedure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Help The Clotting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After their surgery, your child&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.castlerocksmiles.com\/meet-dr-benzley.html\">pediatric dentist<\/a>\nmay have given them a piece of gauze to gently bite down on to help the blood\nclot over the extraction site. This covers the affected area and allows their\ngums to heal properly as well as stop the bleeding. Be sure that they don\u2019t\nchew on the gauze, and try to change it every 30 minutes or so, depending on\nhow much they\u2019re bleeding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prepare Softer Foods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your child has had their tooth removed, the area will be slightly sore,\nand their dentist will recommend staying away from solid foods for a few days.\nTry to prepare some snacks and meals ahead of time to make post-surgery care a\nlittle less stressful. Stock your kitchen with foods like soups, mashed\npotatoes, smoothies, and soft dairy products like yogurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Control Swelling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you notice that your little one\u2019s face is beginning to swell, apply an\nice pack to help reduce it. Keep in mind that swelling can appear up to a few\ndays after the procedure. Icing the area is most effective during the first 24\nhours and should be used 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off for 1 to 2 hours at a\ntime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use Positive Reinforcement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on their age, your child may not understand the importance of\npost-surgery care. If they\u2019re resisting care like having an ice pack on their\ncheek to help control swelling, you may find that rewarding them and using\nvarious methods of positive reinforcement can be encouraging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Follow Advice From Your Pediatric Dentist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The single best way to help your child recover after their tooth extraction\nis to follow their pediatric dentist\u2019s instructions. They\u2019ll let you know how\nimportant it is to keep their mouth clean afterward, but since your little one\nwon\u2019t be able to brush, it\u2019ll be best for them to gently rinse with a saline\nsolution. These kinds of instructions are specifically given to help your\nchild\u2019s gums heal properly and avoid complications such as dry sockets and\ninfection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Implementing these tips for the week or so following their surgery can help ease some of their pain and discomfort. Within a few days, your child\u2019s sensitivity and soreness should hopefully go away.
