Castle Rock Check-ups & Cleanings Preserve Oral Health
Dr. Layne Benzley and the rest of our team strongly recommend that children attend their first dental visit within six months of their first tooth erupting, or by the age of one. In fact, we’re glad to offer a free initial exam for first-time patients under the age of 18 months. We hope that this appointment will be the start of a long-lasting relationship! There’s nothing we enjoy more at Castle Rock Smiles than being able to grow with your little one and help them enjoy the strong, healthy smile they deserve. Routine check-ups and cleanings are the first step of this goal, allowing us to understand their oral development, locate potential issues, and provide valuable information to parents. Contact our practice today! We enjoy seeing patients from all over the greater South Denver area.
How can you help your child feel comfortable and relaxed at their dental appointments? Here are some tips:
- Bring along a favorite toy or book so that they have something to turn to for comfort if they become scared.
- Arrange a visit beforehand so that Dr. Benzley and the rest of our team can meet your little one and show them around the office before any actual treatment begins!
- Have your child sit back in an armchair or recliner and pretend to inspect their teeth so they have some idea of what to expect at our practice.
- Children can be very good at picking up on their parents’ true emotions. If you have negative feelings about dental care, make sure to stay positive so that you don’t unintentionally pass them on, and enlist your spouse or another family member to oversee your son or daughter’s appointment if you just can’t maintain a brave face.
During your child’s routine check-up, our team will closely inspect each of their teeth, their bite, their gums, their head, and their neck. Our goal is to form a comprehensive understanding of their dental needs, as well as the current development of their smile. If treatment is needed, Dr. Benzley can discuss his recommendations with parents afterwards.
A typical cleaning will involve our Castle Rock team removing decay-causing plaque and tartar from the smile in a gentle fashion, leaving little smiles feeling nicely refreshed. As a follow-up, we also provide a professional fluoride treatment, which strengthens their enamel and minimizes their risk of cavities even more.
