Aetna Coverage Availability & Fees

Aetna offers a number of different plans, which come with various fees, stipulations, and coverage levels. You should familiarize yourself with the details of your policy so you can understand how it might apply in different situations.
Here is an overview of the coverage that is standard among many PPO plans:
- Preventive care is often 100% covered. This usually includes services like cleanings, exams, routine X-rays, and fluoride treatments.
- Basic services are frequently up to 80% covered (some plans may provide only 50% coverage). This category includes fillings, non-surgical tooth extractions, and emergency pain relief.
- Major services may be up to 50% covered. Crowns and other extensive procedures often fall into this category.
Keep in mind that your plan may also enforce an annual maximum, which is the highest dollar amount that Aetna will pay for approved services within a calendar year. Because our practice is in-network with Aetna, we have a contract that manages fees. Therefore, you are likely to get more value out of your annual maximum.
Plus, if your child ever needs a major treatment, we might be able to break it up across multiple visits between calendar years. This may allow you to use two annual maximums as opposed to just one.
